Dillian 8 months pregnant

Doula (pronounced doola) is a Greek word meaning woman servant or caregiver. These days it means an experienced woman who offers emotional and practical support to a woman (or couple) during labour and after birth. She mothers the mother - enabling her to have the most satisfying and empowered time that she can during labour and the first weeks or months. The doula will facilitate during the period of adjustment to a new baby, by helping around the house and offering encouragement and suggestions.

New mothers now do not always have an extended family to hand. A doula performs a nurturing role, guiding by experience and helping with practicalities.
